A year ago I never thought I would be married within the year! I had hoped that I would meet some amazing man that I connected well with. I even created a vision board with traits that I so desperately desired in a man. But, I definitely can't say that I even imagined I would meet someone and be married to them within a year? No, not really. I thought I would go out on some dates and possibly connect on one level or another with a guy. Then there would be something that would happen and poof that relationship would end in some inevitable disaster. But I soon realized that When we really desire something and pray about it, God knows when to provide it.
So how did I meet this amazing man? Well, I guess you can say that it was slightly nontraditional in most respects but definitely becoming more and more trendy in our fast pace high-tech society. We met online through a dating app, Tinder. I was nervous about actually talking to men and thought hey why not? It was free and if I didn't like the conversation I could easily block them. My biggest fear was that the guy I was chatting with was a serial rapist/murder, but other than that it seemed the best option to my shyness around men.
So I decided to give it a try, why not? I was recently divorced and wanted to see what types of men where out there and would be interested in me. I chit-chatted with a variety of men, some I even knew before the app. I was picky with the ones that I swiped. You can tell a lot about some one by the pics they post of themselves. Many even had their full name so it was easy to look them on Facebook.
I remember coming across this picture of this attractive dark brown guy in a suit. He caught my attention and I scrolled through his other few pics. I decided that I thought he was attractive and was either a douche-bag or a very sweet guy. I swiped right, of course.
Within a day he messaged me and so begin our online friendship that led to us meeting up the following week.
I was getting my hair done and telling Katherine all about this guy I met online. It was a Saturday and she looked at me and said, "let me meet him and I will let you know if he is a good guy." Katherine has great discernment when it comes to figuring out a person. So I thought, "why not?" I messaged Andrew and he was very eager to meet me and some of my friends! We scheduled to meet downtown later that night at Coffee Underground.
To say that I was excited but extremely nervous was an understatement. We connected so well online and via FaceTime, but I didn't know how the evening would go. I arrived a few minutes early while Katherine and her boyfriend walked around downtown. She told me that Sammy and her would come in later so we had time to talk. But to text her immediately if things got weird.
I told the waitress a table for four please. I sat down and was so nervous that I starred at the menu for what seemed liked ages (in fact, it was only a few minutes). I remembered looking up and there he was just in the door way and our eyes locked. I couldn't help but smiling. He came right over in his green jacket and introduced himself. We started taking right away. I was still very nervous but very smitten (to use an old word).
At one point I glanced toward the window and guess who I saw, Kat, of course. She and Sammy were spying on us! She even snapped some pictures she told me later when we were driving home. That evening was the start of our relationship and I enjoyed every single day since.
